About Us

Greenie was founded by Shakthi Varshini and co-founder Shanath Kumar, both of whom pursued their Master’s degree at Sheffield Hallam University. During their academic journey, they were deeply involved in research related to cancer and women’s health. This exposure led them to recognize the urgent need for safer, non-toxic hygiene solutions. 

 Driven by this purpose, they began their research and development journey in 2011. After nearly a decade of dedicated R&D, they discovered the potential of banana fiber as a sustainable and health-friendly alternative. This innovation led to the creation of Greenie banana fiber pads—a biodegradable solution that supports both women’s health and environmental protection. 

 Greenie stands out for its strong social and environmental impact. The product not only reduces plastic waste but also supports farmers by creating value from agricultural waste like banana stems. Each Greenie pad is designed to degrade naturally within approximately eight months, making it a powerful alternative to conventional sanitary products.The founders’ work has received wide recognition. 

Greenie was honored at the Soper Woman Award by renowned singer Anuradha Sriram and also received the SIWA Award. Their innovation has been featured in major media platforms such as BBC and Sun News, highlighting Greenie’s mission to create a healthier, more sustainable future. Today, Greenie represents not just a product, but a movement—empowering women, supporting farmers, and protecting the planet.
