Our Story

How Greenie Began

Greenie was born from a personal experience and a powerful mission. Our founder, Mrs. Shakthi Varshini, a postgraduate from Sheffield Hallam University (UK), witnessed firsthand how menstruation taboos in India negatively affected women’s health and dignity — even within her own family.

Determined to bring change, Shakthi began a journey in 2012 to research and develop a product that’s not only safe for women but also gentle on the planet. After 7 years of dedicated R&D, we launched Greenie Pads in 2019 — India’s first 100% banana fiber sanitary napkins, which are fully biodegradable, compostable, and chemical-free.

Our goal was simple: to create a sustainable, high-performing sanitary pad using natural materials sourced locally in Tamil Nadu, while also empowering women across India through ethical business models.
